About 2015

2015:
Next year I am going to be in Miss O'conners class (room 24). Next year we are going to be allowed to choose when we do what! Also yesterday they taught us how to be a peer midiator, and a pal, I want to become both! 

Next year my focus is my maths and to learn my times tables and my division! I also want to focus on getting points on mathletics each week!

Next year will be awesome!

Magazine comments 2014

What have you enjoyed most about room 10:
I have enjoyed writing because Mr Hillary always gives us a set time period, and I always try to finish it in that amount of time.

What learning have you enjoyed and why:
I've enjoyed reading because once we read a book we always do a follow up afterwards, which doesn't make me forget about the story.

What learning do you think you've improved in and why:
Writing because I've been putting more detail and punctuation in my story's, because we do activities before we start writing, which makes me think.

What extra learning have you enjoyed and why:
Literacy quiz because it made me read books that are out of my comfort zone, and they were very interesting.

What do you want to improve on:
My maths because this year the things we did in our groups, weren't as easy as the things in all of the tests.

Mr Hillary told me to include and e.g in my variations, he also told me to include the box in the top right corner of the first sheet.

Numeracy Strategy 2014

WHAT:
Learn a range of plus and minus strategies to solve problems.

SO WHAT:
What we've done is solve plus and minus equations by using place value knowledge.

NOW WHAT:
What I can improve on is finding out a strategy to solve division problems.

Athletics 2014

WHAT:
We have just competed in the Kauri Athletics.

SO WHAT:
I was really surprised that I came first in Shot Put!
I was proud of coming first in High Jump, Shot Put and 50m Sprints! Also second in long distance and third in Long Jump!
The most challenging was Discus because I wasn't throwing it so it would fly brough the air.

NOW WHAT:
Next time I'm going to practise heaps on discus!

Production 2014

What: 
I've been doing production, we have been practising for the Jubilee.

So What:
I have been successful by learning all the dance routines and remembering them when we go through them. What I have enjoyed is singing all the songs with the classes that sing with us.

Now What:
I need to focus on facing to the front when I'm saying my lines.

Hollywood or bust. Stage Kindle

WHAT:
To complete Hollywood or Bust, (drama) I have been preparing to be part of a stage challenge performance. 

SO WHAT:
I have been doing production. I am Linda the Limerick liker. I have to always speak in limerick.

NOW WHAT:
I need to improve on saying my limericks in character.

Technology visit 2014

Technology:
At technology in sewing I made a sewing picture and a sticker.
In science I made a helicopter.
In hard materials I made a twister.
In cooking I made an S biscuit and two cookies that I ate.

   Here are the things I made at technology:

What I liked most was hard materials because we got to do most of it our selfs and I learnt new things I didn't know like if you put plastic in the oven it will go soft and you can twist it around.

The Only One

I'm on my way home from school with my friend. We're playing truth or dare. I just have my friend a dare and now they have to give me a dare. She tells me to go into one of the houses along haunted street, because the door is opening and slamming itself shut.....

I tell her "I'm not doing that!" But she insists that I go in. I try to sprint away through the grassy paddocks, but I trip up and land flat on my face. There's no where to go, I have to go in. I slowly walk up the stony driveway, me and my friend side by side. I get to the front deck. I almost trip up the steps, one by one there's no looking back now. My trembling hand knocks on the door, my friend urges me to just go in anyway. I stupidly listen and rush in hoping not to see or hear anything terribly scary. 

I'm walking down the hallway. I think. It would be hard to know because this is such a HUGE house. I get to the end go the hallway and take a left. I enter the living room, there was a rocking chair swaying back and forth with the breeze. Then the rocking chair got out of time with the breeze. I was so scared I ran around the room like I was mad, then a frog jumped off the chair. It gave me such a freight that I screamed, the frog must have gotten a freight as well because he ran onto the fire and slowly started disinter grating. Just then I hear a loud banging noise like two pots clanging together. I follow the sound like it's pulling me in, I enter the kitchen I head towards the pantry to see if there's any food. As I head there I hear a creaking sound foolishly I keep walking and I fall through the floorboards!

I land in the basement. Some how I get up, I don't remember how because I was so dizzy as if I'd been spinning around for days. I look around there's a shelf with dusty spider webs in the corners. I creep over to the shelf, there's a trophy I pick the trophy up it says Maurice Vandaberg 1st in... It was too dark to read the rest, so I move over to where some light is. I clumsily drop the trophy it goes through a crack in a box. I open the lid of the rusty old box. There was a screeching baby inside, and more importantly the baby was cuddling the trophy! I lifted the baby out go the rusty old box, I think he must be cold for all he's wearing is a diaper, and wait what's that smell? EWWWWWW the baby's done a poo!!! I put the baby back in the box, and run as fast as I can, then suddenly I fall through the floorboards. 

I end up in someone's room, there's a duchess with an broken old mirror, that I see my distorted reflection in. There's small and large dolls on top go the duchess, they have curly brown hair, they have pink, green and blue dresses, and they have faces like a witch has cursed them. I'm sleepy. I look at the ragged old bed I desperately need a rest but I don't want to lie on the dirty old sheets. I have an idea I take my jersey off and lay it on the wholey duvet cover. After the jersey is spread all over the bed I lie down, and shortly after go strait to sleep. When I wake up there's the dolls they're standing up and shadowing over me. I'm so petrefied that I scream! The dolls start pulling my hair and my clothes, suddenly one of the dolls yanks my hair I wake up, it must've been a dream. I walk out the door and see the stairs that lead down to the front entrance, that's weird didn't I fall into the basement floor maybe I was wrong?

I walk out the front door my friend asks "what happened?" I say "nothing much." We scoot home, from then on no one knows what happened it's just between me and the house!

Leo Chases His Dreams!

What I could improve on is describing the characters, so the audience gets a picture in their head of what the characters look like.

DRAMA 2014!

 WHAT: 
 We have been involved in a range of new Drama games at the beginning of our new topic Hollywood 
 or Bust.
 
 SO WHAT:
 I enjoyed freeze frame the most because, the people we had to be were really creative, so everyone 
 had to think really hard. We also did freeze frame in room 13 with Mrs Cottrel and she had the same 
 Sort of ideas as Mrs Patteren.

 NOW WHAT:
 I now need to work on my facial expression for the rest of the term.

Kikorangi Motu (Blue Island)

We have been learning Māori at school but because it's Māori language week we have been doing more Māori than usual. 

My Island:
My island has an awa (river) through the middle of the island with a arahanga (bridge) going over the ara (river) connecting the Motu (island), on the top side of the Motu (island) there's two puke (hills) with a huarahi (pathway) going through the middle of the puke (hills) witch leads to a rohe pikiniki (picnic area), there are three one (beaches) two on the bottom side of the Motu (island) and one on the top side of the Motu (island), on the bottom side of the Motu (Island) there are eight maunga (mountains) with a huarahi (pathway) going through the middle of them, surrounding the Motu (island) there is a moana (sea) with harbours going into the beaches.

Mine and Samara's Christchurch art model!

WHAT:
Mine and Samara's Future Christchurch model!

SO WHAT:
Our Christchurch model is a stair swimming pool. In the bottom half of the swimming pool is for kids aged 3-6 and the other bottom half is for the hydro slides landing, and the top pool is for kids aged 
7-11. There is a lot of area to play in because there is 2 swimming pools for kids to play and then little kids won't get squashed by big kids.

Describe a significant event in Canterbury History Ballantynes Fire.

 My overall statement is that everyone should've tried to get out even if they did think it wasn't serious                       
 because, a lot of people ended up dead when the fire burst into flames another because is that they 
 should've tried to get everyone out because, heaps of other people could've ended up dead aswell.

Perspective Art

WHAT:
We have created art to represent perspective of objects close and far away.

SO WHAT:
My art represents a river geting further and further away, with houses looking out over the river, and there are private beaches  infront of the houses.

MY ART ELEMENTS:
Lines: I have done squiggly lines for the outside of the river and the shape of the clouds.
Shape: I have done rectangles for the houses and they have triangles on top as roofs. 
Colour: I have used a dark blue for the end of my river and used a lighter blue for the front of my river.

NOW WHAT:
In my art an area I could improve on is to try and not rush my painting because the colours all mixed together and the painting started to look bad.

My Art 2014


WHAT: 
Create art demonstrating an understanding of perspective. Using effective point, shape, line, texture colour and use of space. 

SO WHAT: 
What I did in my art was try and draw all of the lines as strait as I could without a ruler, and I also tried my hardest to try and get my art to look as good as Mr Shaskeys art, somewhere where I think I was successful was my clouds, and my shading. When I did my clouds the thing I was proud of was that I drew the clouds lightly so that if I did a mistake I could rub it out easily, and in my shading I was proud of that because, I made sure I shaded it all in the shade it should be, and made sure that I didn't go out of the lines heaps.

NOW WHAT:
If I had to do my art again what I would do differently is draw my flags more lightly because at the moment they sort of stand out, also some of my shading is too light or too dark so in my shading what I would do differently is look at Mr Shaskeys art to try and get my shading correct.

Cross Country 2014

Cross Country 2014

WHAT: 
I competed in the Kauri Cross Country at Westlake park for 2014

SO WHAT: 
My strategy was to run closely behind the person in front of me the whole time untill the last sprint towards the finish line, this helped me a lot because at the last sprint I pasted the person infront  of me and ended up in first place this made me fell very proud of myself:-)

NOW WHAT:
Next time what I would do differently is get infront of the person infront of me before the last sprint.

Camp 2014

WHAT:
Living Springs camp 2014

SO WHAT:
On camp the 3 things that I enjoyed were:
Monorail,
Flying fox and
the colors game.
I enjoyed the monorail because every time you went around a corner it felt scary like you were going to fall off.
I enjoyed the flying fox because you thought you were going to fall off when you went over the ditch and coming in to get off the flying fox at the sandpit.
I enjoyed the colors game because I liked being in the same team the whole time, and the team I was in (blue) is my favourite colour 

WHAT I FOUND CHALLENGING AT CAMP:
 was walking up all of the steep hills because it was really hard on your legs, and I think that I didn't have enough food and water to help me get right up all of the hills.

WHAT I LEARNT ABOUT MYSELF AT CAMP:
 was that I can actually do allot of challenging things if I put my mind to it.

NOW WHAT:
If I got the chance to go back to Living Springs what I would do differently is make sure I eat more and to make sure that I pack an extra pair of sneakers.

Cultural Art

 

WALT: 
Choose an icon of our culture and present it using colour in 4 different ways!

So What:
First we chose an icon about our culture (New Zealand). My picture was a koru, then we drafted our icons in our Intergrated learning books. Then we all chose our colours for our posters, after we all painted!

Now what:
If I was to do my painting again, what I would do differently next time is make sure my brush strokes go in the same direction so my painting doesn't look messy, I would also make sure you couldn't see my brush strokes. :-)
