Librarian - Distinction Can Do #20

Librarian - On Monday It was Sam W, Monique, Samara and my turn to do librarian. Once the bell for lunch rang we all walked outside. After this we chose two books and then we walked down to the junior area. Once we were all there Samara and I started walking around and asking the juniors if they wanted to come and listen to a book. Sam W had already started her book by the time we got back. We all sat down and listened to her read. After she had read her book it was Monique's turn, some juniors were being annoying and started throwing balls at us whilst she was reading so Samara and I got up and went to ask them not to. Once Monique had finished reading we left. As we started walking back to the library the juniors started to follow us. We asked them to leave but they didn't so we said they could walk back to the library with us and then they had to go back to the junior area. Once we had put our books away the bell rang so the juniors went back to class anyways. The care value that I showed this week was respect because I asked the kids throwing the balls at us nicely to move somewhere else because we were reading.

Kapa Haka - Distinction Can Do #19

Kapa Haka - On Friday the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. Once the year 7/8 students had been released from class I grabbed my poi on the way out and started walking over to the hall foyer. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and sat them down on a seat. Once I got to the hall I went and sat down in our new lines below the stage. As we were getting ready for the Gala on Friday we went through our gala routine - He Honore, Pa Mai, Ka Wiata and Taitapu. After we had been through this and got it perfected Mrs Baker and Matua came around to make and extra line as all of us weren't going to fit on the stage. Once we had made our new lines we all mixed up then went back into our lines to make sure that we knew where we were standing. After this we went through our routine again and then we were released. The care value that I showed during kapa haka was Respect as I waited quietly whilst they were making new lines even though I wasn't getting moved.

Wellington - Distinction Can Do #16

Wellington - Last week the year 8's went on their school camp to Wellington. The trip went from Monday morning until Thursday night. On Monday the year 8's were expected to be at the train station by 6:30, as the train left at 7:30! After this we hopped on the train, on the train I showed leadership by keeping my voice down and respecting others right to talk as well. It took us the whole day to get to Wellington and by the time we got there it was raining! Over the next three days we went to heaps of historic places like the beehive and the war memorial. One main thing that I remember is the teachers telling us to keep to the left while we were walking around the CBD. This showed leadership by us keeping to the left and keeping our voices down as there were members of the public walking around as well as us.

Leadership meeting - Distinction Can Do #14

Leadership meeting - On Monday the year 8 leaders had a leadership meeting. We heard about the meeting through the student notices as we do every Monday. As Mr Ladbrook (the leader of our meetings) was our own teacher he decided that we would start the meeting early, he started our meeting at read and feed time at morning tea instead of during morning tea. There are eighteen student leaders but the head girl and head boy were at another meeting during this time so we proceeded without them. At the start of the meeting we talked about our action plans that we wrote at the start of the year. After this we talked about being focused as we are the leaders of the school and we need to role model for others. After this we talked about how we were leading the assembly that afternoon. This was a surprise to us a we didn't know that we were hosting the assembly till then. I showed the CARE values by listening and taking in what Mr Ladbrook was talking about.

Overall Leadership meetings - Distinction Can Do #13

Overall Leadership meetings - This year the leadership meetings have been going very well. We meet once a week on a Monday at Morning tea and all of the student leaders show up. I always show up on time with the right resources. Every week Mr Ladbrook takes time to lead our meetings. We always talk about something important and most of listen and take in what Mr Ladbrook is talking about. Most of us are very organised and are always ready for any challanges that Mr Ladbrook throws at us. I show the CARE values by always listening and taking in what Mr Ladbrook says.

Overall Librarian - Distinction Can Do #12

Overall Librarian - Every week on Monday Samara, Monique, Sam W and I all have Librarian. I do well in Librarian as I always show up to my duty on time and with the right resources. We always choose appropriate books from the library as we read to year 1's. Overtime we have come up with a routine that we do once we get down to the junior area. This routine works well for us so we have stuck to it since the start of the year. If we stick to this routine we usually get time for more than two books which is a good thing as the juniors love listening to us read. The juniors usually follow us back to the library but we follow the CARE by letting them down easily and then returning our books.

Overall Kapa Haka - Distinction Can Do #11

Overall Kapa Haka - Overall I have improved a lot in Kapa Haka because I have learnt how to use long poi and be successful in it. Every Friday I always show up to Kapa Haka on time and always have the right resources. Most of the time I sit down in the right place and will be ready for singing. When we sing our songs I always sing them with pride and enthusiasm. If I can't remember the actions then I don't just stand there I go and ask someone who does know them for help. I always show the CARE values in Kapa Haka by asking others for help and by helping others when they forget the actions.

Kapa Haka - Distinction Can Do #9

Kapa Haka - On Friday the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. Once the year 7/8 students had been released from class I grabbed my poi on the way out and started walking over to the hall foyer. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and sat them down on a seat. Once I got to the hall I went and sat down in our lines facing the stage. The first song we started singing was Ka Wiata, everyone already new this song as we sing it in Te Reo lessons, but we also added some new lyrics at the start of the song, and started to practice these lyrics. After this we started going through Tenei Matau. Once we went through this once we realised that we ahd all forgotten the actions to this new song. After this Matua went through all of the actions with us again as he had noticed that most people had forgotten them. The care value that I showed during kapa haka was ecxellence as I never gave up whilst we were re-learning the actions.

Technology - Distinction Must Do #5

Technology - On Tuesday the year 7/8's had technology. As soon as I got to school the teachers opened the door to the classroom so I got to go in straight away. The teachers asked our bus (bus 1) to go and line up first. Afterwards they asked bus 2 to go and line up. Sam W and I lined up at the front of the line as we wanted the seat which has the heater. After this I walked down to the back of the bus and sat with Sam W. I sat next to the window and she sat next to the aisle. On the way there the noise level was very good as I could easily hear the person next to me and most people were whispering. On the way back I sat with Sam W and I sat next to the window and she sat next to the aisle. On the way back the noise level was good as people were only talking to the person besides them. I think that I showed the value of Respect as I only talked to the person beside me and I made sure that I was talking at a good volume.

Kapa Haka - Distinction Can Do #7

Kapa Haka - On Friday the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. Once the year 7/8 students had been released from class I grabbed my poi on the way out and started walking over to the hall foyer. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and sat them down on a seat. Once I had done this I walked into the hall and just stood there as I didn't know what was happening. Suddenly Mr Brown called out to us that we were to sit in our lines facing the stage. This is weird because we usually sit facing the side of the hall. The first song we started singing was Ka Wiata, everyone already new this song as we sing it in Te Reo lessons. After this we started going through Tenei Matau. Once we went through this once we realised that we ahd all forgotten the actions to this new song. Technology - Today the year 7/8's had technology. As soon as I got to school the teachers opened the door to the classroom so I got to go in straight away. The teachers asked our bus (bus 1) to go and line up first. Afterwards they asked bus 2 to go and line up. Sam W and I didn't care where we sat on the bus so we just lined up at the back of the line. After this I walked down to the back of the bus and sat with Sam W. I sat next to the window and she sat next to the aisle. On the way there the noise level was very good as I could easily hear the person next to me and most people were whispering. Koru Games - Distinction Must Do #3

Koru Games - On Tuesday to Thursday the year 7/8 students were all invloved in a three day tornament called Koru Games. The activity I did was Netball. Two highlights were, when I went for one intercept and missed and then sprinted back and got the second pass against Rawhiti and, when our team came sixth overall. I am proud of when I went for one intercept and missed and then sprinted back and got the second pass against Rawhiti, because this took lots of effort and lots of people recognized me for it. Some advice I would say to next years year 7's is to never give up because as long as you have fun and know that you tried your best that's all that matters.
