Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #20
Kapa Haka - On Friday the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. Once the year 7/8 students had been released from class I grabbed my poi on the way out and started walking over to the hall foyer. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and sat them down on a seat. After this I walked into the hall and saw that we were sitting in our lines for hareruia once I had seen this I went and sat down with them. Once I sat down matua said that we should start singing he honore so we could warm up. After this Mr Brown anounced that we were going to be performaning to an audience. The group that came to watch was the year 4/5 and 6's. Once we had performed our whole routine to them the gave us some feedback. Most of them said things that they liked about our routine, but the teachers gave us some feedback on how we could improve. After this another group came in and watched us perform. They gave us some more feedback, they told us what they liked about our routine and then left so that we had time to practise our routine as this is our last practise. We practised our whole routine a few times and then had a talk about whats going to happen on the night of Cultral Festival. I think that I showed the care value of excellence as I never gave up the whole time throughout our performance to the year 4/5/6's.

Fundraising for Wellington - Excellence Can Do #19
Fundraising for Wellington - On Monday I couldn't do Librarian because I had been choosen to go and walk around the Halswell shops and the Riccarton mall. My mum had offered to drive Sam W, Monique, Alicia and I so we could have a supervisor. We left school at 12:40 so that we would arrive back by 3:00. Firstly we went to te Halswell shops. We walked around in pairs as this way we would cover more ground. I went with Alicia and we went to a hairdressing salon near New World which gave us a voucher for a free cut and blow dry. After this we went into New World and asked them, we weren't so successful here as the owner of the store wasn't there today, but we did get an email address which we could contact later. After this we went down to the butcher. We didn't get anything here but did leave a notice for the owner once he came back. Once we had finished asking around Halswell we went to Riccarton mall. Whilst we were here Sam W and Monique managed to get some spot prizes from Noel Leemings. Alicia and I also got successful when we went to jb-hi-fi as we got a gift voucher from them as well. After this we went back to school and arrived just on time for the 3:00 bell. I think that I showed the value of Excellence as I kept going even though some shops turned us down.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #18
Kapa Haka - Today (Friday) the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. Kapa haka started early today as Mrs Baker and Mr Brown wanted us to practice for the cultural festival. Once the year 7/8 students had been released from class I grabbed my poi on the way out and started walking over to the hall foyer. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and sat them down on a seat. After this I walked into the hall and saw that we were sitting in our lines for hareruia (this is unusual as we usually sit in our Tai Tapu lines at the start of kapa haka). Once I sat down matua said that we should start singing he honore so we could warm up. I haven't sung this song for ages but it all came back to me as we started to sing it. Once we had done this Mr Brown and Mrs Baker came in and we started going through our whole cultural festival routine. After this Mr Brown had a huge talk to us about being respectful and loud during our performance as we are only two weeks away from performing at cultural festival. Once he had said this we had some visitors (Mrs Martin and Mrs Hall). They watched our whole performance from the start and said that it was great! Once they had left the teachers said that we were going to start issuing our uniforms for cultural festival. I think that I showed the care value of excellence as I never gave up the whole time throughout our performance to Mrs Martin and Mrs Hall.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #17
Kapa Haka - Today the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. Kapa haka started early today as Mrs Baker wanted us to practise for the cultral festival. Once the year 7/8 students had been released from class I grabbed my poi on the way out and started walking over to the hall foyer. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and put the down on a seat. I quietly walked into the hall as they had already started talking about the cultral festival. As I entered I sat down and started listening to Matua. We started mucking around and singing songs with Matua as Mrs Baker hadn't arrived yet and Mr Brown wasn't at school today. Once Mrs Baker arrived we started talking about the cultral festival again. After this they asked us to go through Hareruia as they wanted to see our lines for this song. Once they had watched us go through it once they sat the year 4's and year 7/8's down as they wanted to change around the lines. Once they had done this we all got back into position and got used to our new lines. Our new lines were good as our line had more people and was easier to move with. After we had practised enough with our new lines we started to go through our whole performance but once we got to Tahurhuri Matua stopped us because he wanted to see who could do the flash poi out of the year 5 and 6's. Once he had seen this he changed these lines around aswell and kept stopping throughout the song so that the year 5/6's could get used to it. After this we went through our whole routine a few times and then the year 7/8's got released as we didn't have to ptactise anything else. I think that I showed the care value of respect as I was respecting the fact that the lines had changed and I just had to get used to it.

Librarian - Excellence Can Do #16
Librarian - On Monday Sam W, Monique, Samara and I were rostered on to do librarian. Once the bell for lunch rang we all walked outside and then started running as it was raining. Once we got to the library we decided to choose a book and then wait for the rain to stop. The rain eventually stopped but I took a while so we only had time for two books. We walked down to the junior area. Once we were all there Samara and I started walking around and asking the juniors if they wanted to come and listen to a book. A lot of juniors did as they had nothing to do because it was raining. Sam W had already started her book by the time we got back. We all sat down and listened to her read. After she had read her book it was my turn some juniors tried to sit on my lap whilst I was reading but we got them off and then I started reading. Once I had finished reading we left. As we started walking back to the library the juniors started to follow us. We asked them to leave but they didn't so we said they could walk back to the library with us and then they had to go back to the junior area. Once we had put our books away the bell rang so the juniors went back to class anyways. The care value that I showed this week was showing respect to others as I had to let the little kids down gently when they kept trying to follow us back to class.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #15
Kapa Haka - Today the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. On the way out of class the year 7/8 girls had to grab their long poi. After I had grabbed my poi I started walking over to the hall with the other year 7/8 students. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and raced into the hall as they had already started. Once I sat down in my line ready for Hareruia Mrs Baker and Mr Brown talked to us about how much time we had left and that we weren't doing as well as we could be. Once he had had this talk to us we all started to lift our volume and make sure we were doing really well. We sung really well during Hareruia but when we went into Tahurihuri it got worse as we were too focused on our actions (my actions were poi) and not focused on singing loud enough. We went through this song twice before Matua, Mr Brown and Mrs Baker were happy with our performance. After this we went into Tai Tapu (our school song). We were doing really well in this song as we all practice this everyday for our whanau hui. We did this song twice as Matua thought that we were off pitch the first time we went through it. Once we had done this Mrs Baker asked us to sit down in regards to our permission slips for the Cultural festival. I got to leave as my name got called out as I was one of the people that had already returned their permission slip. I think that I showed the care value of trying your best because once the teachers had asked us to lift our volume I did and I keep lifting it throughout the whole song.

Librarian - Excellence Can Do #14
Librarian - On Monday Sam W, Monique, Samara and I were scheduled to do librarian. But at the start of the day we heard a notice which told us that the library wasn't open at lunch as there was training for all the librarians at lunch. So at lunchtime all four of us walked down to the library so we could find out what was happening. It turned out that Mrs Ward (the librarian) had wanted all of the librarians in the library so that we could learn about a new website she had set up for the whole school. Mrs Pattern was also there as she had set up the whole website for Mrs Ward. All four of us sat down with the other librarians. Once we were seated Mrs Ward called Ariel so that she knew who was there and who wasn't. After this they talked a lot about how to use the website and we also watched a video on how to use the website. Once they had explained this they told us that we would be going around the whole school and showing them how to use the website as well as it is quite complicated. My goal for next time is to not fiddle through the talking and just sit and listen. I also still need to go and ask Mrs Ward for my barcode number as this is how I get into my account. The care value that I showed this week was showing respect to others as I tried my best to sit and listen through the whole presentation and I also contributed to the discussions we had.
Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #13
Kapa Haka - On Friday the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. As soon as the teachers let the year 7/8 students out of class I headed over to the hall foyer. Once I got there I realised that I ahd forgotten my long pois. I ran back to class and grabbed them out of my bag after that I ran to the hall foyer and took my shoes off. I arrived in my line late because of this but it didn't matter too much as they hadn't started yet. Once I was sitting down in my line matua Rhihari started us off with Pa Mai. Whilst we were half way through this song Mr Brown and Mrs Baker came in and started listening to us. After this Mr Brown took over and said that the non performance kapa haka could leave. Once they had left Mr Brown told us to start on our performance routine. Our first song in our performance routine is Hareruia. This is my favourite song as I really like the lyrics to it. After Hareruia our next song is Tahurihuri. In this song the year 8's get to do long poi and the other girls get to do short poi. Once we finished this we went into our last song which is Tai Tapu (our school song). In this song everyone has actions that they are meant to do and at the end of this song we split off and do the haka. Once we had been through this routine twice Mr Brown and Mrs Baker stopped us as they didn't think that we were doing a very good job and said that we had to lift our volume. After they had said this we all started to lift our volume and they said it sounded great! I think that I showed the care value of trying your best because once the teachers had asked us to lift our volume I did and I keep lifting it throughout the whole song.

Librarian - Excellence Can Do #12
Librarian - On Monday Sam W, Monique, Samara and I were rosters on to do librarian. Once the bell went for lunchtime we all left the class and walked down to the library. Once we were at the library we walked around and looked for the Barbie books as the year 1's love the Barbie books. We couldn't find the Barbie books so we went to look for some other books. Once we had chosen our books we walked down to the junior area. After this some of us went walking around the area asking the juniors if they would like to come and listen to us read whilst the others set up on the deck. Once we had finished walking around the junior area we went and sat on the deck. There were a few juniors on the deck listening to Sam W read once we got there. After a while more year 1's started to show up. Once we had finished reading our books we asked the juniors to go back to their area and play and then we went and returned our books to the library. The care value that I showed this week was showing respect to others as I had to let the little kids down gently when they kept trying to follow us back to class.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #11
Kapa Haka - Today the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. The year 7/8 students got let out of class as soon as we had finished fitness. On my way out of class I grabbed my long poi as we usually practice this a few times at kapa haka. Once I got to the hall foyer I took my shoes off and put them down on the ground. After this I went into the hall and sat down in my line. When Matua Rhihari got there he started to sing He Honore with us. Whilst we were still singing this song Mr Brown and Mrs Baker walked in with the short rakau. After we finished this song we went into our routine for the cultural festival. For this routine we sing the songs Tai Tapu, Tahurihuri and Hareruia. After this Matua asked the year 8 girls line to sing the entrance to pai mai as Hannah wasn't there to do it. We weren't loud enough to sing this so Mr Brown said that we weren't aloud to do long poi. He stuck to his word through the whole kapa haka practice and we didn't get to do long poi. I think that I showed the care value of trying your best because I didn't moan about when we couldn't do long poi.

Librarian - Excellence Can Do #10
Librarian - On Minday Sam W, Monique, Samara and I all had librarian. As the bell went for lunch we all raced outside so that we could get to library early and get our books. Once we had gone to library and gotten out books we realised that we didn't have enough books so Sam W and I had to share reading one of the Barbie books. We didn't take the beanbags with us this time as it had just rained and the music room deck was still slightly damp. Once we got to the junior area we started to ask if any little kids would like to come and read with us. Once we had gotten a few little kids we started to read Sam W and I read first we read together by reading one page of the book each. After we had read our books we packed up and left the music room deck. The little kids wanted to follow us but we wouldn't let them as we had to get back to class soon. The care value that I showed this week was showing respect to others as I had to let the little kids down gently when they kept trying to follow us back to class.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #9
Kapa Haka - Today the year 4 - 8 students had Kapa Haka. The teachers let the year 7/8's out of class as soon as we had finished fitness. As I left I went to my bag so I could grab my long poi. Once I got to the hall I took my shoes off and went inside. Once I got inside I went and sat down next to Sam W and Kyla as this is where I sit. Once Mr Brown arrived we started to sing He Honore. It has been awhile since I sung this song so I nearly got the words wrong. Once we got half way through this we got the words wrong do we had to start again. Once we had been through this song without getting the words wrong we started to sing pai mai. For this song we had to do the actions, this was hard for me as I only have one arm and I could only use one arm to do the actions. Once we went through pai mai a few times we went onto practicing our performance routine for cultural festival. Our first song is Hariruia I like doing this song because we get to all come in at different times. I think that I showed the care value of trying your best because I kept going through the long poi even though I mucked it up a few times.

Technology - Excellence Must Do #5
Technology - Today the year 7/8's had technology. As soon as I got to school the teachers opened the door to the classroom so I got to go in straight away. The teachers asked the bus 2 line to go and line up first as they were the best bus last week. Afterwards they asked our bus (bus 1) to line up. As our line was hopping onto the bus we all had to say sorry to our bus driver as we had been too loud the week before. Once I had said sorry to the bus driver I walked down to the back of the bus and sat with Samara. I sat next to the window and she sat next to the aisle. Ok the way back I sat with Samara again and this time I sat next to aisle and she sat next to the window. On the way back the noise level was good as people were only talking to the person besides them. I think that I showed the value of displaying all care values to the public as I made sure I was being polite to everyone around me.

Librarian - On Monday Sam W, Samara, Monique and I had librarian. As soon as the bell went for lunchtime we all raced out of the class so we could get to library early. As soon as I got there I went to look for the Barbie books. As I went to look in the box I realised that all the Barbie books had been issued to other people in the library. Sam W and I had to choose other books that looked really cool. Once we had choosen our books we started to leave the library. As I got to the door mrs Ward pulled me back and asked about what happened to my broken arm. The others left as she started to talk to me and said I can catch them up later. Once I had finished talking to Mrs Ward I went out to the music room deck. Sam W had just finished reading her book and it was my turn. When I had finished reading we went back to the library to put our books back. I think that I showed the care value of being a positive role model because even though I arrived late I came and sat down quietly so that I didn't disrupt any of the juniors

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #7
Kapa Haka - Today (Friday) the year 4 - 8 students had kapa haka. The year 7/8's teachers let us out of class as soon as we finished fitness so that we weren't late to kapa haka. Before I left class I went to my bag to grab my long poi as I had taken them home the week before so I could practice. We got to the hall foyer on time today. As soon as I got to the hall foyer I started to take my shoes off. After this I went into the hall and sat down in my line, I sat next to Sam W and Kyla. The first song we started to practice was He Honore as we couldn't start our routine because the non performance group were still at kapa haka. Once a few minutes had passed by Mr Brown asked the non performance group to leave so that the performance group could practice our routine. Once they had left we all went through Tahuri huri a lot of times as this is our main song to practice. After this we all left and went out to morning tea. I think that I showed the care value of trying your best because I kept going through the long poi even though I mucked it up a few times.

Librarian - Excellence Can Do #6
Librarian - On Monday Sam W, Monique, Samara and I were rosters in to do librarian. As the bell rang for the start of lunch I went to quickly get a newsletter before we started and Sam W, Monique and Samara all went to the library to choose some books. Once I had got my newsletter I went to put it in my bag and then I went over to the music room deck. Once I got there Samara gave me a Barbie book that I was going to read to the juniors. Sam W was still reading her book so I waited until she had finished. Once she had finished her Barbie book I started to read mine. Once I finished my book we asked the juniors if they could go and play with their own friends and then we packed up and returned our books to the library. I think that I showed the care value of being a positive role model because even though I arrived late I came and sat down quietly so that I didn't disrupt any of the juniors.
Technology - Excellence Must Do #4
Technology - On Tuesday the year 7/8 students had technology. The bus 2 line got to hop on the bus before my line (bus 1) did. The line I was in got to hop onto the second bus that came this wasn't much behind the first bus thankfully as it was cold and I didn't want to wait to long for the bus. I was at the front of the bus 1 line so I got to hop into the bus first! I chose a seat near the back as this seat has a heater underneath it and I was cold. I sat next to the window and Samara, who I was sitting with, sat next to the aisle. On the way there the noise level was good at the start and then it started creeping up as we got nearer to Lincoln. Once we were at Lincoln the bus driver told us that he was really close to pulling over and that we would have to step up our game for the bus ride back. I think that I showed the value of displaying all care values to the public as I made sure I was being polite to everyone around me.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #5
Kapa Haka - On Friday the year 4 to 8 students had kapa haka. As I left class to walk to the hall I grabbed my long poi that I had taken home the week before. Once I arrived at the hall I lined up in my line. I stand next to Kyla and Sam W as the lines goes in hight order. We started off with our school song (Tai Tapu) as we got further through this song Mr Brown and Mrs Baker arrived. We practiced this a few times before we moved on to our next song. We started to practice our transitions after this as we are going to cultural festival this year. We practiced this for a while and then we went outside and practiced our long poi. Once we had gotten the routine sorted out we came back into the hall to practice our long poi with everybody else. On Friday I think I showed the value of being a good role model to others as I didn't talk to the people beside me and I did what I was asked to do straight away.
Technology - Excellence Must Do #3
Technology - On Tuesday the year 7/8's had technology. When the first bus had arrived in the school car park Mr Muller decided that the bus 2 line could hop on the bus first. My bus line (Bus 1) ended up writing for ages for the bus so Mr Muller said that we should go back into the hall foyer. After we were waiting in the hall foyer for about ten minutes the bus had arrived. On the way there I sat next to Samara. I sat next to the window as Samara had to take pictures of everyone in the bus because she was making a slide on how people could show the care values on the bus. On the way there the noise level was good as everyone was showing the care values so that Samara and Monique would take a picture of them. On the way back I sat next to Samara again this time I sat next to the aisle as Samara had finished taking pictures for her presentation. On Tuesday I showed the care value of filling seats sensibly as I made sure that there was enough space for only two people to a seat.

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #4
Kapa Haka - At kapa haka on Friday we left class after we finished fitness so that we could get to kapa haka on time. After we had grabbed the poi from room 14 we walked down to the hall. Once we got there we took our shoes off and then went in to sit in our lines. At kapa haka I sit next to Sam W and Kyla. Once Matua Rhihari arrived we started singing our school song (Tai Tapu). While we were halfway through this song Mr Brown and Mrs Baker arrived. Once we finished singing they wanted us to sing harriuia. Once we had finished this song we went and asked Matua Rhihari if we could practice our long poi outside. He said we could so we went and did that for about 10 minutes. After that Mr Brown called us back inside so that we could practice getting from one of our formations to the other. We did this three times before he let us go. On Friday I think I showed the value of being a good role model to others as I didn't talk to the people beside me and I did what I was asked to do straight away.
