Librarian - Excellence Can Do #2

Librarian - On Monday at librarian Sam W, Monique, Samara and I were on. We went and waited outside the library once the bell for lunch had gone. We were waiting there awhile as we were waiting for Mrs Ward to come and unlock the door to let us in. Once we were inside Samara went and signed us all in and Sam W, Monique and I went to look for the Barbie books. We couldn't find them where they usually are so we went and asked Mrs Griffis where they were. We eventually found them and took two books between the four of us. We didn't take the beanbags this week because we  thought that they would just be a nuisance. Once we were down there Sam W read her book and then I read my book. We had heaps of year 1's come over wanting us to read to them. Once we had finished it was a struggle to get them to go and play with their own friends again but we eventually got there.

Technology - Excellence Must Do #1

Technology - On Tuesday the year 7/8's had technology. Once we were lined up outside in our two lines (Bus 1 and Bus 2). I was in the bus 1 line. The teachers let the Bus 2 line hop onto the bus first. A bus arrived and we all thought it was our bus but as half of us were already on we realized that it wasn't our bus so we all had to hop off again and wait for the bus to come. Samara and I sat in the middle of the bus. I sat next to the aisle and Samara sat next to the window. We started to talk to each other and it was really good because we could actually hear each other without talking too loudly. On the way back I sat next to Samara again, we sat near the back this time. Instead she sat next to the aisle and I sat next to the window. On the way back the noise was really good again as Samara and I could hear each other the whole time without raising our voices.

My Short Story

For this piece of writing I have focusing on my vocabulary and punctuation. I have been learning to:
  • Use a large productive vocabulary across the curriculum. (Year 9/10)
  • Use a wide range of punctuation appropriately and with increasing accuracy. (Year 9/10)

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal.

Outside My Window

Outside my window there's people; people I don't know; people who could hurt me. I don't want anyone to see me, they don't need to see me. If I don't go outside I don't need to worry about that, inside is where I feel like I belong, inside is where I should be! I've always wanted to play netball but to do that I need to go outside, so I try not to think about it, that way I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I like to play cards but that can get really boring when that's all you play everyday.

I can hear my chair creaking as I move, I can see the Lightning as it passes by, I feel like if I just reach my hand out the window I could feel it, feel what the outside world looks like. I unexpectedly hear someone laughing outside my window. There's two girls walking past, I wonder what's it's like to be them (I feel so jealous). I suddenly have the urge to go outside, I want to feel what it's like to walk along the slippery footpath, to feel what it's like to walk in the rain. But I can't I'm too scared. If I go outside anything could happen I could trip and hurt myself or I could even run into someone, just imagine how embarrassing that would be! ‘But you could do any of that inside as well!’ Wow who said that I think ‘I did’ there it goes again. Umm who are you I think repeatedly. ‘I'm your inner voice’ it says. Umm okay, what do you want. ‘Well I'm just saying that you could easily trip over or bang into someone else inside.’ Hey you're right I think. “I am going to go outside” I shout too loudly.

I get to the doorknob, I stand there looking at it for what feels like a lifetime. Do I move, or do I not move. ‘All you have to do is take two steps and you’ll be outside’ says my inner voice. ‘Now just open the door’ it says (I am starting to get sick of my inner voice telling me to do the right thing!). Okay I can do this I think to myself, I close my eyes and open the door without even realising. I take two steps and imagine myself still inside. ‘Open your eyes!’ Says my inner voice. I slowly open one eye after the other I turn around and look at the front door I left wide open, I did it I say to myself. I wander further into street, I did it I'm outside and I'm not scared anymore!

From that moment on I go outside everyday; as a matter of fact I'm even applying to a netball club, so that I can play netball! I realise now that I don't have to feel scared anymore whatever I need to overcome I can do it, well me and my inner voice can overcome it!

Kapa Haka - Excellence Can Do #1

Kapa Haka - Today at kapa haka, we got there at the right time as we got to go into the hall as soon as we got there. Once we got into that hall we lined up in our lines for He Honore and Tai Tapu. As soon as we were set up we started singing He Honore once we were halfway through the song we mucked the words up so we had to start again. The second time we went through He Honore it was alright as we got the words right the second time. After this we went through Tai Tapu for fun and then Mr Brown decided that we would set up our new lines for the poi. I stand at the front of our line as I'm one of the shorter ones. The year 8's don't have any actions for the long poi yet as we are still learning the actions. Once we had finished I went back to class and thought about some new actions for next time.

Kapa Haka

Kapa Haka - On Friday at kapa haka we got to the hall early again! We only got there a few minutes early but it definitely makes a difference. It felt like we were waiting out there forever, as soon as Matua came out I felt relieved we finally got to go in. Once we all got lined up in our rows we started to rehearse Tai Tapu (our school song). We went through this song around two times and then finally went into our groups for hariuria. It took us a while to calm down and actually be quiet as we were all excited. Once we had calmed down we got started practicing. Once we had joined in around halfway through the song we started walking forward this was hard as Mrs Baker wasn't walking with us because she was trying to see how we do by ourselves. I had to focus on my own footwork as the year 4's right at the front were gong at the wrong time. I eventually managed to get into the right rhythm of the beat but I had to do this a lot as the year 4's weren't going at the right time during any of the times we went through our song. Next time I'm going to work on staying in the right rhythm with my footwork.

Librarian

Librarian - When I was meant to be doing librarian on Monday I had a clash as I had to go and get my sport uniform for run, bike, run the next day. I managed to work around this clash as I went to the hall to get my uniform at the start of lunch and then went back to librarian. Once I got to the library Sam W had already chosen the books so we went down to the music room deck so we could start reading. Sam W started to read the first book she had gotten as I went around the juniors area asking if there was anyone that wanted to come and read with us. I eventually got as many juniors as I could and I was so exhausted from running around that I asked Sam W to read the second book for me. I sat listening to her on the deck as we had forgotten the beanbags. Next time something I could do better is not running around so much that I have to ask someone else to read my book for me.

Kapa Haka

Kapa Haka - On Friday I had Kapa Haka as I arrived there were still people in the hall so we had to wait outside the door. Once everyone had left we went in and lined up in our lines. Once we had done this we started singing Tai Tapu. We have new actions to this song so I had to try and remember them as we went. After this we practiced Hareuia. We have been having trouble with this song as we have to come in at a certain point of the song and then walk forward at a different time. I got really confused whilst walking forward as everyone was going at a different point of the song. Once we had done this we went back to practicing Tai Tapu as at the end of this song we do the haka. Part of the new actions is for us to half as we are standing all together at the start and let the boys come forward. Some people get confused by this as half of us go one way and the other half go another way. Next time I need to work on remembering which foot to come forward on in Hareuia.

Librarian

Librarian - On Monday at librarian Samara and I had to read to the little kids by ourselves as Sam W and Monique had to finish their maths. Once Samara and I got to the library Samara went over and signed us in and I went to look for some Barbie books as they little kids love Barbie! When I went over to the cupboard to look for the Barbie books I couldn't find them so I went and asked Mrs Ward where they were. We eventually found them right at the back of the cupboard. As we were leaving the library we remembered the beanbags and decided we should take them down with us. It was hard trying to carry three beanbags between the two of us but we managed. Once we got to the deck of the music room we put the beanbags down and went to ask some kids if they would like to come and listen to us reading. At first not many kids wanted to come but as we started reading more and more kids came along. At the end of the two books we carried the beanbags back and went out to play.

I can describe the structure of a Short Story

Something I have learned about the structure of short stories is that there is always an outcome to the problem in the story.

After reading some short stories two things I will remember when I write my own short story are that there is always a problem no matter how small the problem is and you need to include a setting.
