Comparing two leaders exposition

WALT - Follow the writing process to write an exposition.

I think that I achieved extended abstract because I finished my exposition to a high standard. My next step is to look at the results I got in my exposition.

Here is my conclusion of my exposition:
As you can see both leaders are very different and in my personal opinion I think that Richie McCaw is a better leader as he decided not to leave New Zealand and play for another country and I think that shows a lot of integrity. I also believe that a lot of New Zealanders look up to Richie McCaw as he has achieved a lot as he was the All Blacks captain!

Librarian

Librarian - On Monday at librarian Sam, Samara, Monique and I went to the library at the start of lunch to look for some books that we could read to the juniors. We decided not to bring the beanbags this time as they get a bit annoying with the juniors trying to sit on them whilst you are reading. This week I chose a Barbie book as Mrs Ward said that all of the juniors love the Barbie books! Since Sam W wasn't in the library as we chose the books we chose one for her. Once we approached the juniors area we found a place on the deck that we would read our books. We thought that we already had enough juniors with us so we decided that I could start reading. Once I started reading more and more juniors came over to listen to us. After I read Sam W read. Once we had all finished reading we packed up and took everything back to the library.

Leadership meeting

Leadership meeting - On Monday the 2016 leaders had a leadership meeting. At the start of our meeting Mr Ladbrook asked Xanthe and I how we were going with our charity plans. Xanthe and I hadn't been able to finally decide on a finishing date but we decided shortly after the meeting finished. After this Mr Brown came into our meeting and told us about what was happening with tabloid sports this week. The leaders had no idea what Mr Brown was talking about at the start but we shortly understood as we had no idea about the tabloid sports this week. Mr Brown didn't know exactly what was happening on Friday but he said he was going to ask Mr Forman and find out for us; this means that we might end up having another meeting on Thursday. Xanthe and I have been busy organising our charity event that we are going to have to think about the tabloid sports quickly before we forget!

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about what makes a good leader.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are integrity, trustworthy, resilient, goal focused, active thinker and motivational.

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is goal focused because I like to achieve all of my goals to a high standard and on time.

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is active thinker because I don't contribute to class discussion as much as I could.

Something new I have learnt about leadership is that everyone makes mistakes and it doesn't matter how bad the mistake was; what matters is what you do after you make the mistake.

The solo level that I reached during this unit of learning is relational because I can understand how to compare and contrast the traits of an effective leader I just can't understand how to put these leadership traits into action.

My next step in learning about leadership is to apply everything that I have learnt about leadership to my own leadership roles.

I can read and interpret a range of graphs.

For maths I have been learning to read and interpret a range of graphs. This relates to the National Standards as it meets the criteria of:
  • I can compare distributions visually (Year ⅞ Standard)

Here is my link to my Statistical Literacy spreadsheet which shows all of the graphs and tables I can read and interpret.

I have also compared and contrasted some of the graphs. Below are the links to them.

My next step is to use these in my leadership investigation next term.

Music

I can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place.

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place.

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music
- Melody, A series of single notes that are played repetitively in your head.
- Harmony, Different keys of harmony. Note’s that are different that are all played at the same time.
- Rhythm, A song that has repetitive sounds that can change the speed through the song (a car driving down the road).
- Timbre, Sound quality. Special sound that makes each voice of instrument different. Has it’s own tone.
- Form, The music plan how the song is put together.

Here is an example of my learning Example of characteristics in music.

Librarian

Librarian - This year for librarian my role  is to go down to the junior area with a book and with three other librarians (Sam W, Samara and Monique) and read to the juniors. On Monday we went to the library to collect our books and the beanbags. After this we walked down to the music room deck and two of us went around asking kids if they wanted to come and read with us while the other two stay and start reading with some little kids. This week we only read one book as we didn't start reading untill later on that lunchtime. Sam W got to read her book before the bell rang. As Sam was reading her book the rest of us sat in a circle listening to her. We usually get a lot of junior children come over to listen to us so we have to remind them to be quiet as Sam reads. Next time I think we could do better at getting out there earlier so that we can all get through our books.

Leadership Meeting

Leadership Meeting - On Monday we had a leadership meeting. We started off by Mr Ladbrookasking us how we were going with our leadership projects. Xanthe and I have decided that we would change the date of our charity because we weren't ready for it, so we have put it off until April. After Mr Ladbrook had asked us some questions about our charity we went to see if Mr Brown was in his class as we wanted to ask him some questions about our charity. Mr Brown wasn't in his class when we went passed so we went back to the leadership meeting and talked to Mr Ladbrook about some of the charity questions we had. After this the leaders could either go outside or do their blog post I decided that I would do my blog post. Next time at the leadership meeting I want to make sure that I'm ready to answer Mr Ladbrooks questions before he asks me them.
